The Bow Tie Gallery, located in Findlay Ohio, is the manifestation of the artistic vision of Greg Pitts who is undoubtedly the most diverse self-taught artist in the world. The Ohio native started life out at a disadvantage. Being born to a single mother in the 1960’s made life less than ideal. He did not meet his father until he was 12 years old. His journey into the arts began at the age of 14 when he purchased his first camera on lay-away from a camera store in his hometown of Lima, Ohio with funds he earned from his newspaper route. As a young teen, he exhibited artistic capabilities, but the lack of understanding from his family lead to discouragement. However, his vision would not be extinguished.
Fourteen years ago, Mr. Pitts became established as an actor and filmmaker acting while continuing to use his photography as another form of expression. As a filmmaker, he has written, directed and produced several short films, five of which were award winners that have been featured in numerous independent film festivals throughout the country with his most recent accolades including the film " Karma-the Movie ” executive produced by his son Lamar Pitts of Lamar Pitts T.V, LLC. One of Mr. Pitts’ earlier films “Eight-thirty” was an official selection several film festivals, including the 2010 EgoFest Film Festival in Brainerd, MN, IndieGathering film Festival in Cleveland OH where it won “Best of the Fest –Indie” and at the Dickson Independent Film Festival in Dickson, TN where it won Best Short-Drama” His photography has exhibited at the Museum of Art at the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, The University club of Vanderbilt University as well as at several venues in his now residence of South FL. He is a lifetime member of the International Freelance Photographers Association.
His abstract art has garnered a tremendous amount of attention in recent years. Clients have purchased his artwork internationally and he was a successful exhibitor in December 2010 at Miami Art Basel. His artwork can be found in the Netherlands, South Africa, Vienna Austria as well as various cities throughout the United States and Canada.
He has been featured in several Internet magazines, articles and blogs . His “functional art” (artistically re-created furniture from recycled items) has been photographed and featured in many publications, most recently in Delray Beach Magazine February 2011 issue. His recycled art pieces are highly sought after and he has been dubbed an environmentalist due to his creative use of discarded and recycled objects.
